Power-steering fluid is the hydraulic fluid that conducts the power in the power-steering system. In all power steering systems, the seals, O-rings and internal power-steering components wear out through time. When they do they start to break apart, these particles taint the fluid - this means the power-steering pump has to work harder and if not fixed - eventually this will cause it to break down.
Power steering fluid replacement means draining or flushing out your car's old power-steering fluid and then adding fresh power steering fluid. The fluid is the cheapest component of your power-steering system and replacing it when needed lengthens the life of other, more expensive power-steering parts like the power-steering rack and the power-steering pump.
